Hello,

I have a 1920's John Deere tin sign that I found in a Helena Montana hardware store. It is near mint and was made by the American Art Works Inc of Ohio. I am looking to trade it for any early tin Auto maker signs, ( FORD preferred ) or another nice Implement sign. I also like early non-gas/oil/auto tin signs so feel free to let me know what you have.

Please repond to:

Welcome, Nice sign! Could I ask a question? Wasn't the four legged deere used at this time? I'm not positive but curious to see if several versions were made? Thanks, Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Paul,

Thanks for your question. I date this sign to the 1920's due to the fact atht I bought it from the son of the owner of the Implement Dealer in Helena. He had records showing when his dad sold JD equipment, and the evetually this company went out of buisness and the man's father took over the store and focused on saddles and tack. I'm not a JD expert either, but those who I have spoke to agreed with the age of the sign. If anyone has other information I would love to know more! Thanks again!

Dustin, my "John Deere's Company" historical book shows an exact running deer logo like your sign, & is dated 1912. So, no doubt in my mind that you have an original, beautiful, & rare JD sign!

Thats from 1912-36.... info >
Hence, the second John Deere trademark was registered in 1912. The deer continued to be shown leaping over a log, with the words "John Deere" arching above and "Moline, Ill." below the deer, much like the original. There was a lot more detail and definition drawn into the animal in this version. The slogan "The Trade Mark of Quality Made Famous by Good Implements" first appears here, extending across the bottom. It was changed in 1936.

Hello,

I have recieved alot of PMs regarding a selling price. I hesistate to even throw the carrot out, but anyone who want to make a fair offer is free to do so. I'd much rather get a nice sign for my collection rather than money, but who knows I might be cash poor by the end of the weekend and money may sound good after all! Please submit any offers to me directly at:

Thanks,
