Ran across these unusual motor oil bottles today:
The clear bottle on the left is a blob top bottle from
Globe oil company..The bottle on the right is green with
a different top from Mohawk Oil Company, has the Indian facing right..looks nothing like the West Coast logo.
Both bottles resemble soda pop bottles. Has anyone seen
anything like these?

I bought one identical to the Globe Oil on the left on e-bay a few years back because the seller said it was a Globe Motor Oil Bottle and I'd seen the gas pump globe with the A-1 logo. It actually says "Globe Oil Mills" and I think it is old, but it's some kind of caster oil or cooking oil bottle. After I got it I don't think it was motor oil.

I have never seen an ad or anything for oil bottles less than a quart. These appear to be less than a quart and I would be interested in know what their capicity is.

If they are less than a quart, I would think Mike has the right idea.

Both bottles say Motor Oil at bottom of bottles
Blob top bottles date from 1870 to 1910
Both are definitely less than a quart
Approx. 1/4 of a quart

I would assume a Metric measurement . I bet they sold oil by the Mililitre in several places . Uh One Thousand Mililitres to a Litre. This translates to somewhat less than a quart . Ed Shaver

These could have been promotional bottles to advertise the companies at some major event like an exhibition.

The may have had some type of soda or more likely just water in them as oil doesn't pour well out of these type of bottles.

From what I could find online they're worth 8-15ea by bottle collectors.

That's odd because my bottle only says "Globe Oil Mills" above the logo and "Brand" below the logo. There's no reference to Motor Oil on it.

Does your globe bottle have a blob top?

I was unfamiliar with that term before this thread. I would say yes as it looks exactly like yours. I can see how it got it's name. There aren't any seams and it kind of looks like a blob of glass on top. Looks like it must have had a cork in it originally because there's no way to crimp a lid on. I'd sell mine cheap if you want a mate.
