I just acquired an old Texaco double sided sign. The gas station owner painted it green when he switched from Texaco to Gulf. Most of the paint peeled of, but some remains. Does anyone know the best way to remove the paint without damaging the sign? Thanks. Fred from TuggOnyx.

Porcelain is pretty durable. I use SOS pads. Doesn't scratch and actually helps bring the shine back out.

I'm assuming the sign is porcelain. If so, use some sort of stripper to loosen the paint. Then put on some gloves, get some fine grade steel wool, and go to work. I've used ordinary paint stripper from Wal-Mart--apply it and let it sit for an hour or longer. Then get a bucket of warm water with the steel wool and wash and scrub. The paint should come right off. It's a good thing you found a sign painted over--these usually have the best luster once cleaned. good luck
