Here is a really cool old pic I bought at a roadside junk store over the weekend. I have no idea where this station is, but the plates on the car are 1935 Illinois plates. I thought the pagoda gas station design was cool and the three Texaco visibles in the background look awesome. Nice porcelain thermometer and public telephone signs too! If anyone knows what type of car this is, who this guy might be or where this station was located I'd love to get more info. This car is totally decked out - I think he added every add-on available from the dealer!

Holy moly--Is that a cow catcher in the front? What ever he hits, that bar will keep it there for sure.

I see the lion in the background--maybe a station in Hong Kong? I was 10 when we stopped by Hong Kong as part of a round the world trip. Those temples with the pagoda roofs and so many lions were one of the few things I remember about it. The one in my post is metal while the one at the gas station appears to be concrete or stone.

Hong Kong was still a British colony back then...

Or it could be a gas station in a China Town in some U.S. city.

Is the photo in a frame or holder of some kind? The info may be written on the back, but first make sure the photo is not stuck in the holder. Carefully try to peel a corner. If the photo is leaving stuff behind, stop and just enjoy it as is.

Hi Nicole,
I was thinking the Chinatown district in Chicago when I first saw this photo. However, there were several other pagoda-style stations built in other places so I don't know. I put the pic in the frame. There was no info written on the back of the photo unfortunately.

The car is a circa 1933 Auburn , highly customized.
Looks like he ran out of accessories to add on.
Maybe the founder of JC Whitney? lol
Be interesting to know the background.

Wonder, what those curb signs are. Signs look to be identical on both. Second one is on the Island by the pumps between the cars.

I love those late 20's and early 30's cars. When I was a kid growing up on the farm, my Dad had a 31 beat-up Buick that he hauled bags of feed in & on the outside front fenders! One time he took the back seat out and hauled calves to market!
