And your response to a good suggestion is why your venture is having trouble.

Its from an old book Bob, but ya might want to find a copy somewhere....

How to Win Friends and Influence People
This is Dale Carnegie's summary of his book, from 1936

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Table of Contents
Fundamental Techniques in Handling People
Six Ways to Make People Like You
How to Win People to Your Way of Thinking
Be a Leader: How to Change People Without Giving Offense or Arousing Resentment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part One
Fundamental Techniques in Handling People
Don't criticize, condemn or complain.
Give honest and sincere appreciation.
Arouse in the other person an eager want.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part Two
Six ways to make people like you
Become genuinely interested in other people.
Smile.
Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
Talk in terms of the other person's interests.
Make the other person feel important - and do it sincerely.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part Three
Win people to your way of thinking
The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.
Show respect for the other person's opinions. Never say, "You're wrong."
If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.
Begin in a friendly way.
Get the other person saying "yes, yes" immediately.
Let the other person do a great deal of the talking.
Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers.
Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view.
Be sympathetic with the other person's ideas and desires.
Appeal to the nobler motives.
Dramatize your ideas.
Throw down a challenge.

mrbob... we are lazy and like to just click links. Going back to the home page and waiting till your banner ad rolls up isn't as easy as a link.

Like some of the others... trying to compete against with ebay is going to be tough venture. Everyone complains about ebay... but everyone uses it and looks at it everyday. The buyers ebay has is huge numbers!
Good luck!!!! I put your website in my favorites and will watch it.

Bob,
Please read Thunder's message above on this page. I think it was posted with a constructive intention.

You have taken on a monumental challenge. Getting as many people on your side as you can is essential. Read that book.

Honestly for me, every time I read a quote like this from you;

"I GUESS THAT IS WHY THIS FORUM IS POPULAR AND HAS THOUSANDS OF POSTS SO YOU GUYS HAVE A WAY TO BEAT THE ***** OUT OF PEOPLE."

It re-enforces my decision to stay away from your site. Right now, for me, that seems to be a very smart decision.

All the negativity from me started with you! I spent a lot of time reading posts on this site and have read too many negative comments from the same few guys. At this point and after many months of trying every angle from being very receptive to criticism to defending what I am trying to do with no results, I am done. I will not advertise on this site after my ad time runs out. As I said earlier in no way was I being disrespectful to The American Garage post and you guys attack me. I hope everyone else reads the book that was suggested to me.

maybe i need to explain myself coheley5.i have been in business for myself for over 20 years and 20 before that with my dad.one thing i learned is never to berate my potential customers on "why didnt you pick me?"many people here have pointed out good reasons why they dont go to sign of the past.and i beleive that is reason enough.if i were to talk to potential customers in the way that has been done here,i bet it wouldnt be 2 seconds before i would be tossed out on my ear,and never called again.not to mention that they would tell their friends, who wouldnt call me either.read the book!

Looks like I saw this thread a little too late.
If you would have looked at mrbobk's original post he did edit it after Doc's suggestion with a link to his website at 7:55pm which was well before you guys started jumping on him.... too bad.

I THOUGHT FOR A WHILE HERE YOU COULDN'T EDIT YOUR POST AFTER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME...LIKE AN HOUR SO? OR DOES THAT JUST EFFECT CERTAIN FORUM AREAS OR AM I NOT CORRECT AT ALL? LOL!

BUT SINCE I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST TO COMMENT ABOUT ADDING A LINK TO THE ORIGINAL POST, I CANNOT SEE ANY OTHER CHANGES OTHER THAN THE LINK GETTING ADDED NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES IT WAS EDITED. THE ORIGINAL POST LOOKS THE SAME TO ME...BASICALLY AN ANNOUNCEMENT.

I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS THREAD WENT SOUTH FROM THAT POINT ON. JM2C.

I followed the thread from the beginning, the link WAS NOT added until very recently, It was not there a few days after the post started. Something is very fishy there

Just to set things straight. Bob K did edit his first post within the 10 hours of open edit time to add the link. Nothing fishy at all.

I did change the setting Monday morning, Dec. 20 that allowed a member to check a box on the Edit form to show on the message that the post was edited or not. That is no longer an option in an effort to show complete transparency in the edit process. Now all edited messages will show the time of the last edit. Stating the reason is encouraged, but is still optional.
