Hi Guys,
I know a lot of you have viewed the new Auction Site Sign of the Past.com. Could you comment on why no one has posted any items for sale? There is active bidding on the current signs but no new postings.
Thank, you

Thanks guys for the feedback. I have forwarded the info to the programmer. Tom don't give up yet, I had no way of knowing the site was not performing correctly. These problems will be fixed ASAP.
Sincerely,

Hi Guys
I just talked with the programmer and he is unable to duplicate any problems. In the last 2 days we have had 15 new members join with no problems. Please try again and let us know if the same problems happen and at what point during registering it happens.
Thank you,

Your computers are locking up due to the size of the photos on the 'HOME' page/Auction Lisitng.

For instance, the ELRECO photo is a 300 dpi photo that takes up 449K of memory. This size makes it slow to load - and it's only one of seven that need to load on the HOME page - not to mention all the other graphics and text.

These initial photos don't need to be that large. They should only be saved at 72 dpi (since this is the resolution of your monitors).

Saving the ELRECO photo at the same overall dmension - but only 72 dpi - brings the memory requirements down to a miniscule 26K.

Save the larger, memory-wise, photo for the actual auction page where an interested party can see the detail necessary.

Later . . .

Jim

I am not sure what the problem is. We have tested the site and no problems with creating a new user. We have lots of new members from Gas & Go Pit Stop, with very good feedback. After you have completed the steps to register you will get an email at the address you listed. You than have to follow that link to activate your account. Just cut and paste the link in your browser. We encourage you to also sell on the site, free listings for 30 days.
Thank you,

I thought I would check out the site and I had the same problems. Computer is slow and/or freezes up. Too frustrating to use with those kinds of issues.

Attention: Everyone, E-bay wasn't built in a day. The Sign of the Past web site has only been up for short time. We are trying different ideas and not all of them work. We are going to resize the the images and believe this will solve a lot of issues. A lot of users have had a good experience so far, which makes the issues harder for the programmers to duplicate. Hang in there everyone we will running smooth soon.

IF/when ebay thinks your a threat they will buy you out or find some way to shut you down.
Ebay owns Pay Pal so every time someone uses Pay Pal, ebay wins.

Hi Dick
Thanks for the comments. You hit the nail on the head. When E-Bay first began you knew who you were dealing with, the fees were reasonable and you could e-mail another member without being censored! As I mentioned in an earlier post I am a collector and I am involved like you are. I am not a computer programmer like the founder of E-Bay. Yet the site has been up for over a month and not one of you have posted an item for sale, EVEN FOR FREE?? If you look at my feed back rating on E-Bay you will see I didn't purchase anything for many years when they raised their fees and forced you to use Pay-Pal, what a scam!! As you will notice on my site you can pay how ever you want! If you guys wont support The Sign of the Past than there will be no need to worry about E-Bay taking me out.

Nice site and hope it takes off. Why do people use a reserve price ? My wife and I went to an equestrian auction last weekend and all they did was waste time trying to bid something up only to say the reserve was not met and does anyone want it for the now announced minimum. I finally got someone to just tell me what was wanted pricewise and we purchased some good tack and left. I have been doing ebay for 10+ years and just list it for what I want. I understand the concept of trying to build buzz but , in my opinion it is a waste of time. I have over 1700 positive feedback and no negative. Why not just start at the minimum price desired ?

No problem viewing the new auction site on my machine...and my computer isn't anything special (I have the middle speed DSL hook-up from the phone company). John

Hi Guys
We have had a lot of people sign up, but only 1 other user besides myself have posted any items. 1500 of you read my initial post that there is a new web site. If each of you listed only 1 item FOR FREE we would all have an awesome alternative to E-Bay. I personally have purchased $20,000.00 in signs so you would have something to bid on, and the bids have been low. Come on guys give it a try.
Sincerely,
Bob
