In the Wanted section someone is asking for a globe body. He states that he doesn't want a modern repro.

What if you own the original mold? Granted they are modern, but are they repros?

For any part in general.....I would say anything that wasn't manufactured during the original build dates is a REPRO.
But with that said what's really the difference? If you have the original mold and use the original techniques to build it then technically it's the same part whether it was manufactured today or 60+ years ago? Even back then you could have a difference between parts that were made on a Monday or Friday vs. parts built Tues. - Thurs. wink

It's pretty simple - it's either old or new. For me, if it's new, I have no need or desire for it. Most of the reason I collect this stuff is its age.

Without new repro items, most of us could not restore these pumps to look "original" at a price that the public could afford. Everyone likes real stuff but most can not pay the price needed to aquire it. Just my opinion as always. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Im with Wes I like the old for its age, and thats why i collect this stuff. I do use some repro stuff for my own pumps but not very often, and its very minimal. I also think that repro is good too in restoring pumps and such. Sometimes you just cant find the original. Case and point a 36b Top. DB owns them all. LOL

Originals only for me. Always looking for Simpson oil, Super A, and MFA oil cans and globes.

If a new part is made with the old mold and same technique, then technically its not a repop. Reproductions are exactly what the name denotes--a duplicate of the original part using modern technology and tools.
That being said, you can't duplicate patina very well and a lot of the desire for original parts resides in the patina or "look" of the object.
I would never pay as much for a freshly made new original as I would for an old original. JM2C

Like Wes and Shawn... MARKED reproductions have there place in this hobby. Pump restoration guys would be lost with out them or be to costly.

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

Speaking specifically about capco globe bodies, it's not just about the mold used to make them. The material used to make the newer bodies is different (whiter) and doesn't light up nearly as nice as old originals. I definitely prefer ones that were made "back when".
