This is probably a silly discussion but I have a question for collectors (and I say collectors because a dealer would probably sell them all). The Item could be anything but lets use two examples. Suppose you bought 4 sets of say a rare salt and pepper shaker and you don't specialize in salt and pepper shakers nor that particular brand. For myself I would probably keep two pairs and sell the rest or use them for traders for other items not necessarily other salt and pepper shakers). Next example you found 4 clear glass glasses with the SOCONY shield embossed on the bottom. I again would keep two and sell or trade the other two away. Now I have set the story up, that in my mind the items are in some way rare, but I suppose it could be anything you purchased of multiple items all the same. For myself I always figure I keep two, to make the item more of a set and not seem like a fluke. You know the saying - one is just one but two is a collection (at least that is what I always say). So for the collectors how many do you sell/keep? Would you keep them all, sell all but one or somewhere in between? The reason I am asking this is because as you know I have a website where I sell my doubles meaning in most cases items that I have more than one of, but occasionally when I get something I consider rarer I prefer to keep two even if it means I keep both if I only bought two (and there were only two for purchase). Thanks for any insight you can provide to either convince me keeping two is a better idea then keeping one or convincing me to sell all but one of the item. I suppose for the sake of the discussion lets say money is not a consideration because if it were, in theory I would sell all but one. Thanks again. John

If I have 2 or more of a specific item, I sell or trade all but one. But, I seem to get tired of my collections, often. My s&p shakers have found new homes, as has my tire and tube repair kit collection, my gas pump radio collection and most of my oil company patches, lol.

I would keep at least 2 of what you have. Then later on when you might want some money you sell the second one and you still have one to keep for your collection.

Always keep the best one for your self to enjoy. And use the others for selling and trading stock. Or you are going to turn in to a hoarder And that's know good.

I also keep the best one to enjoy. And use the others for selling and trading. I don't see a reason for a duplicate collection unless I am filling a can rack with all the same can or something like that, but I hardly ever find over one item at a time anyway.
