it was attached to a building in the same manner as a Let us Marfax your car sign marked Made in U.S.A. E-2-38. would that be 1938?

Your bucket may not be as old as you think it is.

I used to do a "Picture of the Day" feature on this forum where I would post an interesting picture every day. I don't want to going looking for it now, but I posted a picture from around 1948 where Standard announced that they were finally going to discontinue making axle grease. And the bucket in the picture looked like the one you posted.

DB can probably find the original posting.
