Too often I forget about using Yahoo Image search to find photos. Thanks to Brian (Swilly), a new member, I remembered yahoo images. Here is a photo from yahoo of a 1931 White Eagle station being restored:

How about a photo of an old Wilshire canopy in San Jose?

URL=http://img301.imageshack.us/i/oldwilshireoilstationin.jpg/]

Or if you want something newer, how about a Texaco station built in 1968?

I've lived in San Jose for over 20 years and don't remember seeing this canopy anywhere. It's likely gone by now. Probably replaced by houses or a new commercial plaza.

The address for it is/was 2149 Alum Rock Ave according to the photo. The cars and trucks look to be from the 2000's and I believe the photos were downloaded June '09.

Just checked Google maps and it's still there and still a smog place. It's on the east side of the city and I live on the west side. I've driven by there a few times, but never paid any attention to it.

I hope this link works.

Also, click on this other Google link and zoom in all the way in satellite mode and look for the car wash in the southwest direction. Then, drag the "guy" into the crosswalk turning south from Cherry onto Co Hwy G8 and look into the car wash. Tell me what you see??

This place is about 1.5 miles from my house. Always wanted to take my 37 Airflow there and take a picture in front.

There's also an old gas station with two visible pumps at the San Jose History Park. I'll take pictures of it next time I'm there.

Debra is a great person , she told me that she hadn't seen the Trianglr Filling station I did the model of . The former Atlantic station that both Scott Benjamin and debra have seen at the corner of 17th and Broad has had a major facelift . I'm glad I have photos of that station form years ago as this station was built back in 1920. Ed Shaver

Here is a photo of the same station in more recent years with a caption:

This station was originally built in Maryville, Missouri by Foster Builders for Kyle Phares, of Phares Oil in 1937 and stood in the 900 block of South Main street. It was a fully operational gas station until probably the late 70s, when it was moved from the site. At first the station carried no brand affiliation. It was one of the first discount gasoline stations in the area. The station in the photo is now located on the fairgounds in King City, MO.

I have always looked for books that contained old station photos. I received a new one in the mail today, the title is:
"American Service Stations; 1935-1943 Photo Archive"
This book has 143 pages and 128 of them are photos with short descriptions.

Like a lot of you, if not all, I have some of the different Oil Company collectors guides. They are great showing some working gas/service stations, but I like seeing a lot of photos of the old stations. I have a number of gas station books, and have another coming entitled: "Phillips 66 1945-1954 Photo Archive: Photographs from the Phillips Petroleum Company Corporate Archives (Photo Archive Series)".

This book I received today, has some of the best vintage photos I have seen. Too many of my books show stations now, not what they looked like while in service as a working gas station. If you have a book that you really enjoy please share it here, so others can purchase one and enjoy.

That Wayne 60 station is very cool. Does anyone have a picture of an Esso station with a ACTO globed pump. I think ACTO was their budget gasoline? Likely pre-war era.

The globe is shown on page 64 of "The ESSO Collectibles Handbook". The photo is of the globe itself, not mounted on a pump. So far this is the only photo I have found.

I didn't realize you guys were all so interested in old pics of stations as Bob put it,"while in service as a working station".I think that's great!!Gas stations as a service facility as they were intended to be rather than an advertising photo op.

We can post "pics of pics"if you like of stations in operation with brands many of you not be familiar with including Rio Grande Oil, Malco and Horn.All more or less regional chains.

It would take us a while to put it togather but we can do it.Oh,I forget to mention ATEX and a few more.

Since this thread has found new life, how about a few more photos?

URL=http://img156.imageshack.us/i/whiteroseroadsidesign.jpg/]

This is one of the attractions along the White Pole Road in Menlo, IA. In 1934 the Kalbach Oil Company commissioned the Nebraska Neon Sign Company in Lincoln to build an image of a service station attendant in a blue uniform outlined in neon lights to welcome motorists. The sign has been refurbished within the past couple of years and once again the neon lights shine and the gas station man waves to passing cars.
