How to clean glass cylinder -- HELP

have G&B 176 cylinder thats got oxidation and cloudy residue on the glass. Have tried everything i can think of like CLR, etc. Is there a trick, or permanent damage?

0000 Steel Wool and plain soap and water. Always works for me.

Muriatic acid will do the trick! Trouble is, its awful stuff to work with as far as the smell. Definitely takes the stains off tho!!

USE ONLY IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA, WEAR EYE PROTECTION, RUBBER GLOVES & A CHEMICAL RESPIRATOR. Neutralize with Baking Soda & rinse with plenty of water.

Somewhere, I found an article about glass insulators. They had suggested there to use Wood Bleach. I've long since lost that article, and even though I have some of the stuff, I havent tried it.
