Hello - this is my first post. Does anyone know when this Signal logo was used? I had never seen it until recently. Thank you.

Do you know for certain that it's for the Signal gas company? Could it be for another Signal company?

Looking at the art style I would say your "Signal " is of a late sixties- early seventies vintage . I can't say that it's a reincarnation of the old Signal Oil and Gas co of Houston though . Ed Shaver

I got some empty oil boxes from Fred Stokes some years ago that had that same logo. May have been used for oil product during the last year or so of their existance.....Joe

They made a sign change in 1962-66. I have never seen anything from this time period though. Richard

You guys are great! I had seen that old post with all those great pics, but failed to recognize the logo on those oil cans at the end. And I googled every which way but came up with zilch. Thanks so much for the help!

It's not foreign, was used in the USA.
Logo book doesn't list all logo's that were used for all companies [example: early UNION OIL of CALIF].

After SOCal sold Signal to Humble in 1967,
Signal Oil and Gas reacquired the name and began to replace the Hancock rooster
and Norwalk California state logo with the Signal red and green stylized "S".
The patch represents this logo. check out hancock when you go to this site on this subject-
has alot of the oil companies but not all-

This logo, often called the split "S", is to the best of my knowledge the logo that was used after the Humble purchase. I have several quarts, outboard cans, patches, a credit card and a I think a money clip around her some place. Advertologist is correct about the "S" being used for Norwalk and Hancock as well.

Happy Collecting.
