Hi everyone, Im new to this forum. I was metal detecting and found this sign in the ground which I managed to recover. I was hoping someone here could put a date on the sign.

I have the images uploaded to my imageshack account. I'll try to get them posted on here, hope this works.

The sign says CONOCO across the top and Continental Oil Company across the bottom. The middle says Amalie and L Sonneborn and Sons Inc with a Permit 30.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its a smaller one, its maybe 10 inches across. My wife says Im crazy for bringing it home. Says its junk but I dunno, I kinda like it. One side is in better condition than the other so that will be the side that will be displayed when I hang it up somewhere. Pretty old sign..

Im going to go back and hit the same site this weekend, if there was once a gas station at this site, there is no telling what will come out of the ground next. I'll post more pictures if I come across anything.

How cool would that be to pull these relics out of the ground that once had a fueling station there. Nothing out there now but grass and dirt but history is just a foot in the dirt. I was getting a ton of hits on this particular site so who knows..

Size is right for a paddle sign for use on visible/curb pumps.

Welcome to Old Gas. That is a cool sign. I like the way you found it also. You just saved a piece of history. But watch out this hobby can be very addictive wink
