No, I never think to look there, then I find three messages from last week.

My email address is right there, just as easy to use.

You got to keep it fresh Jack. With the twitter and the facebook. email is out and pm is in. It's the new thing right now. "Why in my day we didn't have all this stuff" "Had to walk 10 miles up hill, both ways, in the snow, just to email someone". OK I'll stop now.

The flashing red and white icon is supposed to grab your attention when you log in indicating you have a pm. Just have to check it everytime like you would your email account. Not really any more difficult IMO.

At least you're on the internet and posting pics Jack, that's more than most fellas can do at you and DB's age. You guys probably remember scratching pump pictures with stones on cave walls. smile

The trouble is, that is blinks all the time and when I go there there is nothing new.

BTW, I mastered Corel Draw (where I edited every picture in my GP book and Air Meter book), Pagemaker (where I wrote four books) and Front Page (my website).

What I don't understand, why is PM so popular, if it just the same as email? And I rather read a good book on history than find friends on Facebook and Twitter them. Besides, my FAMILY doesn't want anything to do with me and my FRIENDS have all died.

Jack

Pm is popular because it works very well. How many times have you tried to email somebody and have your message get stuck in their spam filter? It happens quite a bit.

Another nice thing is that when you get a PM on oldgas, you know the message is coming from another member on here.

I wouldnt recommend blocking the PM feature, but maybe spend a little time to get to know it a little better, I bet you will end up liking it.

Ever notice that most new members can & do post pictures, but older Enthusiast members refuse to learn.
Newer members expect immediate answers to questions that it has taken years for some of us to gather.

Jack, right click & hit reload and it will stop flashing.
I've been trying to get the same thing to stop flashing & that did it.

Some people don't like new Technology. At least I do some research before I ask questions and don't expect immediate answers. I don't live on the computer, so I assume others don't either.

I'm not against technology, but it just appears that most of the new stuff coming along is just to make you spend more money. Look at the cell phone, what has it become. I see people who can't carry on a conversation, but can spend every minute on their phone texing every detail of their life.

I right clicked, but there is no reload to click on.

In case you still see the flashing envelope after you have viewed your PM messages -

If you are using Internet Explorer for your browser:
Right click on a blank spot in a Web page and choose "Refresh"

If you are using Firefox (recommended)or Safari:
Right click and choose "Reload"

PM messages are essential for members who hide their email address from view.

ON ONE WEBSITE I HANG AT WE HAVE SOMETHING CALLED A CHATBOX WINDOW. IT'S LOCATED UNDER THE WEBSITE BANNER AND ABOVE THE FORUMS. HOWEVER I CAN'T IMAGINE THAT FEATURE HERE. THERE WOULD JUST BE WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE CONVERSING HERE "LIVE" AT ONCE! LOL!

PM'S TO ME ARE LIKE A SIMPLER INTERNAL 2ND EMAIL OPTION.

I made the change to Firefox a couple months back and must admit it was well worth the effort in most cases. I'm with Jack on the Twitter and Facebook and texting. I often wonder how these same people addicted to their cell phones would have gotten by back when we used phones that were still connected to the wall via a coiled cord. I often think people talk just for the sake of talking. Take all that texting and talking energy and put it to some useful purpose like a hobby or improving your life in some way and we'd be collectively in a much better place IMO.
