HEY YA'LL.

JUST AN FYI...there is a listed Mobil Marine light up sign on ebay right now....the case it is in is real....but the sign itself is total fantasy.

Go here to see

http://cgi.ebay.com/MOBIL-OIL-MARINE-Soc...=item5d26c766b5

or type in Mobil Marine in the search window. The seller says it is rare....well, rare for a fantasy piece. BUYER BEWARE. GREAT OPENING BID PRICE TOO......not!

Thank you for that piece of information! The only way we have to deal with this type of thing, at this point, is to educate each other! Too bad that Ebay has made it so hard to educate the potential buyers!

YEAH THAT FIXTURE IS THE REAL DEAL FOR SURE. I LIKE THE FANTASY SIGN BETTER WITH THE LIGHT OFF. THE LIGHT IS TOO CENTERED! MAYBE IT LOOKS BETTER IN PERSON, BUT IT DON'T DO NOTHING FOR ME LIT UP. $699 IS WAY OVERKILL FOR A LIGHT FIXTURE HOLDING A FAKE SIGN.

I am in no way trying to defend the seller of this sign, but this question is coming from a gas pump guy, I don't know s... about signs. So...how do you know it is a fake? This site is not only to answer questions, but to help people coming into this hobby from making serious mistakes. I don't doubt your info, but what is it based on?

I talked with the seller, who is a reputable guy. I advised him to remove the glass and take a good look at the back side of the glass. Sure enough, it had the white back like the repo globes. He was selling it for another guy that bought the piece at Fred Stokes gas bash, thinking it was original. He killed the auction. Sometimes we jump to the conclusion a seller is trying to defraud us, when actually he's the one that got taken!
