Hi, Gang. I have a couple of questions about the old 72" tall Standard thermometers. First, I see there are at least two versions of this big thermometer. One promotes Red Crown Gasoline at the top, while the other features Polarine Iso-Vis Oil at the top. Is either one of these Standard thermometers more valuable than the other?

Second, going on line, I see prices all over the place from $400 to $2400 (hard to believe the $400 deal though!). Could I please get a little input as to the current retail pricing on these Standard thermometers...assuming a good glass tube and pretty good, but NOT mint condition?

I'm looking at buying one of these thermometers from a private party, and I truly don't know where to be on price. Thanks in advance for any help. Best, John in Wisconsin

i know of 5 differnt versions of the red crown and polarine thermometers. i have seen prices in the 800-5000 range depending on condition. the tube has an big effect on value, as these are not easily replaced. better the condition the more valuable they are!!!!!

I think you are right on the 5 different versions. If you can pick up a decent one for under a grand you had better jump on it smile

Here's a picture of my Standard Oil Red Crown (Nebraska) Polarine "The Perfect Motor Oil For Sale Here" 6 foot thermometer with original functioning tube. I was never so nervous in my life as when I was waiting for U P S to deliver it, And never so happy when I got it in one piece! The shine and gloss on this piece is second to none. I paid $1539.00 for it on ebay.
Alot of money, but I never once regreted the purchase.
