Long story short.Found a gas pump restoration book for 3 bucks.Buddy of mine decides he would like one also.He finds a friend that has a set of late Gulf pumps. He doesnt have the extra money to spend on them.I bought them both for $600.All 4 signs ,face plates & handles.Only missing the glass. My father-in-law has some plexiglass for the windows & hose with newer handles. But the handles need reducers to fit the hose.Any ideas where to find them? Also are the swivels on the later handles correct to use? I know they are '56-'63 acording to the book. The new no-nox is probably going to be a repaint and I am thinking just preserving the good gulf.Any helpful hints on preservation?

I'm guessing that the handles you are referring to are the nozzles? If they are threaded for 1 inch hoses, you can pick up a pipe reducer at any hardware, HomeDepot,Lowes store....1"x3/4". Usually in galv. but black iron will work. The swivels were used on a bunch of pumps and they would be good here as well. This is a hobby so just enjoy and do what you like.

The Gulf Crest was a super premium gasoline introduced about 1958-9 at least here in Virginia . Pumps were painted purple with a blue band near the bottom . Around 1967, Crest sales being what they were , were dropping like a rock . Crest pumps were then replaced by a White pump with a EL - Cheapo grade called Gulftane . It was a minimally leaded gasoline until the government got into the gasoline business in the late seventies . Ed Shaver

...no blue on the Gulf Crest pumps, they were solid purple - see the attached photo of a 1958 Gulf calendar card...
...Wayne Henderson swears he's seen a Gulf Crest pump sign, but I've never laid eyes on one, in a photo or in person...
...Gulftane pumps were blue with a white band at the bottom, and a blue base, by at least 1963 - attached is a magazine ad that shows three Gulf pumps in a row...they were solid white with a blue base starting in 1965...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Here is a decal I had made several years ago, I had about 6 made for the Gulf collectors back then (early 1990's). They came out OK, never did restore that Gulf Crest Purple Pump.

Here's a recreation of the 'unconfirmed' version from the PCM book . . .
This 'looks' like a pump plate in the book as it has 4 'mounting holes'.
Later . . .

Hey guys thanks for all the help. My Father-in-law owns the no-nox and wants to put it outside his shop out back.I dont want the signs to get stolen so I think I will make him a similar sign with "Bill's shop of Hard-Nox" . Of course the originals will remain in my garage till the pump becomes mine. The Good gulf is gonna just get a spruce up not a restore. Those pics are great! I want one of those calender cards. Where can I get one and how much ? T-way why is that Gulfcrest orange and not the silver look like in the previous pics? I am gonna look for another pump to do a Gulfcrest with. I would be intersted in finding some correct decals to make some signs if anyone knows a source. I am gonna use the New No-Nox sign for templates for Bill's sign and to mount the gulfcrest on till I find a pump.

All I can tell you is the art was created using the reference from page 228 of the 'Guide to Gas Pump Restoration' book. My customer wanted the color to be more of the Orange that Gulf used - so that is what I did for him.
In the book, the color is kind of a light gold color - it doesn't look at all like it is supposed to be Silver.
The book has this image listed as: "Gulf Crest, 11.5" x 17.5", 1957 - 1962, Unconfirmed"
Later . . .

The only place where you Don't see the silver is on the "Unconfirmed Sighting". all actual pictures of that decal show silver
