...I've never seen that before - looks like there's some good parts there...it's a shame no one makes repro sides and tops for A-38's, he'd be all set...

...what do the tops look like?...are they scalloped on the right and left, to line up with the sides?...

Petropumps,
Yes & No.
IF they hadn't been cut down, might have been scraped out.

I would look for a couple of Beaters to combine parts w/ these 2,
OR
get Creative an add A-62 TOPS to them.

Hey Mark,
Look close at those tops. What do the corners of the tops look like? If they're shaped to match the contours of the sides, then maybe they were original...if they "hang over" the corners of the sides and don't match the contour, then I would continue to think they were cut-down. I've seen the exact same pump before on a farm up here and even had a very similar top...but you could tell by looking at the lines of the pump that it wasn't an original top. The A-38 sides are "layered" and the cast top didn't match those lines. What do yours look like??

I WILL TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT THE TOPS WHEN I GET BACK TO THE GARAGE.I AM 99% SURE THAT THESE TOPS WERE ON THESE PUMPS FROM DAY ONE.THEY MAY HAVE BEEN DESIGNED AS A38S AND FOR SOME REASON WERE CUT DOWN AND NEVER HAD THEIR GLASS TOP GLORY!THIS ENTIRE GROUP OF PUMPS HAVE BEEN IN CLOSED STORAGE FOR YEARS.THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO.MARK

Mark,
Looks like you had a fun day!
Did you gut the pumps on site or haul them with the guts?
Could you post better pictures of the sides of the National pumps and top please?
How is the top fastened?
Is the teardrop side just appear to be cut short or does it have a shorter complete teardrop ?

Thanks,
Rob

...you're exhausted and filthy, you've got a load of old gas pumps, you hung out with a good buddy all day, and the smell of old stale gasoline fills the air (the smell of victory)...that's a good day...
