WELL ACCORDING TO THE INFO IN THE ESSO COLLECTIBLES HANDBOOK ON PAGE 120 BOTTOM IT READS:
"ESSO SANTA CLAUS MAILBOX. THESE MAILBOXES WERE PLACED IN SERVICE STATIONS FOR THE USE OF CUSTOMERS' CHILDREN. THE CHILD WOULD WRITE A LETTER TO SANTA CLAUS AND PLACE IT IN THE MAILBOX. EACH CHILD WOULD RECEIVE A REPLY.
CIRCA: 1950'S VALUE: $100-150"
OF COURSE THE HANDBOOK IS 11 YEARS OLD AND THIS ITEM COULD BE WORTH A BIT MORE, PLUS EVERYTHING IS CONDITION AS WELL.

Doc you are correct. Standard also had them. I would put the value at $200-$250 since the condition is so good. There was a NOS one by Standard a few years ago at a local auction that sold for $750. But that was the whole kit not just the mailbox

...Gulf used them too...the Esso logo is a water transfer decal...they were customized for whatever company used them...they had matching stationery for the children to use, w/o oil company logos...I'd agree...$200-250...nice piece...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
