Hello all -

I'm a new guy on the site a have a question I hope someone can help me out with. I've just acquired a tall Wayne 70 in pretty good condition and am taking it apart for restoration. I'm stuck at the point of removing the sight glasses. I can't tell how these things come apart. Here's an image of where I'm at:

Can anyone give me some pointers on removing these things without doing too much damage? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Wagz (Marc Wagner)

Carefully warm it up with a propane torch [close to the cast iron]& spray with WD40 a couple times. Then use a strap wrench. IF that fails, use a dremel & cut a slot @ bottom across threads to relive the nut [can be filled later w/ bondo].

Where you see the 'tabs'. That is a threaded nut. You need a spanner wrench. A little heat applied to the cast iron just behind the nut will allow the cast to expand and it 'should not be a big deal. You can use a pipe wrench with a little care and hopefully not mess up the nut too bad. Usually any gas left in it is so old it will hardly burn at all. But its gasoline after all. Be careful.

Excellent. I'll give that a try this evening. Thanks for the insight.

Gentlemen, Thank You!

I decided to run out to my garage and put a torch to the cast iron. Both bowls came right off with a little heat and a little torque on an oil filter wrench. I appreciate the fast responses.
