I thought this was over, but some people, just dont understand the law, nor do they feel any need to follow it. George. ANYTHING inside our dumpsters, is property of our company. Unless, under specific instructions, to handle otherwise.

When we dump it, it becomes property of the facility, where we dumped it. Unless, under specific instructions, to handle otherwise

ANYBODY, in our dumpsters, other than the contractor, or their employees, can be charged with CRIMINAL TRESSPASSING.

ANYBODY, other than the contractor, or their employees, who dump in our dumpster, can be charged with THEFT OF SERVICES.

If you choose, to break the law, so be it. I just think, that its funny, (sad) that you justify your arrogance, by calling recycling.

This is a big waste of this fourm and obivious stirring of the pot, over something really simple.I think both sides have valid points and may be correct and true,BUT I think theres common sense of what would really be scrap or debris or property.Whatever, opinions are like you know what, everyones got one.I geuss use the best judgement possible,I'm pretty sure the phone company could give to hoots about some scrap sign laying on the side of a highway,if so they should be taking care of there property, not a reason to steal it but I'm sure that it was not in service anymore.

I guess I'm not smart enough to see why this discussion "is a big waste of this forum". I thought that's what the forums are for to exchange ideas, including differing ones?
I still don't see what's so hard to understand? We teach our kids; "THAT IF IT ISN'T YOURS, LEAVE IT ALONE IT BELONGS TO SOMEONE ELSE! Why as adults do some believe they don't have too follow that same philosophy? The concept hasn't changed. If it's not alright for your child to do it, why is it okay to do it yourself? If we were talking about someone taking items off of "our" property, I don't believe one person here would have the same "cavalier" attitude. Even if they found the items in long grass or a "falling down shed" or buried in briars. It would be "ours". When you take something, and in the past I've done it, you are taking something from the "someone" who owns it. Whether it is a person, company, community, state or ... And Joe, if an elderly and/or sick friend or relative of yours isn't able to keep up their property anymore, it would be okay for people to come in and "scavenge" their place because "they should be taking care of there property"????? Just something to think about.

I think some of you just want to pick a fight no matter what. Do you think people cleaning up trash on the side of the road are thief's? If you are walking along a city side walk and pick up a penny that was on the ground, are you stealing? How about people who collect pop cans from the trash to recycle, is that stealing too? Going on to private property to rummage through an old house or barn is wrong, I don't think anyone disputes that. But if you find something in a dumpster, on the side of the road I think its a gray area that is a judgement call. If you are up for a little dumpster diving, have at it!

I am an avid runner and biker. You would be amazed at the stuff I see on the side of the roads. I just wish more people would 'steal' junk from the ditches. It looks a lot better when its clean.

Ok last post on this, not really worth the effort.Bob maybe it isn't a waste of time for some people, thats just the way I see it,my bad. Also we are not talking about if this was a sick friend or elderly relative. If it's private property, fine stay out!!But I beleive Doc mentioned it was found along a state hwy.Like I said both sides have valid points but this paticular case I don't see as a big deal.I think Scott summed it up just right.

HEY ONE DAY I FOUND A JIFFY LUBE RECEIPT ON MY FRONT LAWN THAT BELONGED TO SOMEONE I KNEW. THEY LIVED 2 MILES AWAY. I TOOK IT BACK TO THEM. I DIDN'T REAM THEM OUT FOR LITTERING. THE WOMAN SAID SHE HAD JUST COME FROM THERE AND THE RECEIPT MUST HAVE BLOWN OFF THE SEAT OF HER JEEP WHEN SHE WAS PASSING BY.

We do service work for several folks that own rental property.
Combined it is well over 100 properties. I have thier permission to take anything that is under the houses in the crawlspace. It belongs to the property owner because it was abandoned by the tenant.
I have found a lot of cool junk under houses over the years.
I recently aquired a claw & ball foot tub that was in great shape, from a remodel.
Free of charge. Just the other day I found a china tank under a house that will fit my antique toilet, and the guy who owned the house gave it to me. It's nice to be able to hunt while I am getting paid to work, and getting it for free on top of it all. wink

This was left by a tenant, I asked the land owner about it and he let me have it.
It was a beater but it was free.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but in GA. trespassing is not a crime.
It is only when you are TOLD not to come back on to the property in front of an officer or witness, and you are caught again, or theft or vandalism takes place does it become CRIMINAL TRESPASSING.

I don't think you are trespassing on the "right of way",,,,, are you? confused

Private property

* Photography may be prohibited and/or restricted within an area of property by the property owner[38]. At the same time, a property owner generally cannot restrict the photographing of their property by individuals who are not located within the bounds of the property[38].
* In order to film on someone else's property, permission must be received from the owner.

From a differant point of view greed was one of the things that I saw years ago that caused me to take a step back and change the way I did things. It causes people to justify doing all kinds of things to get all kind of things. I changed my approace at buying or acquiring things. My son watched me poke around in old buildings and places I probably should not have been then decided he could walk into a house he was thinking about renting at age 18. The police were called and he was arrested for trespassing. I saw I didnt do the best job teaching him to respect others property.

Hillsides, it takes a big man to admit he was wrong, especially on a public forum. Hats off to you. Whatever the law is wherever we reside, we all really know what is right and wrong. Maybe technically you can go on someone's property and it isnt tresspassing, but its not right. Nobody would want some stranger on their property without permission. We really just need one rule, the Golden Rule. If everyone folowed it, there would be far fewer problems in this world.

I seriously doubt if anyone here has the right to throw any stones at anyone for anything, PHYSICALLY OR SPIRITUALLY.
