while going to the cabin i got to see a pump that had "standard oil company" on the clock face.now unfortunatly my batteries went dead on my camera,so i couldnt get a pick.my question at this time would be is this unusual to see the oil companies name actually printed on the face?and would this be particular to a certain pump?no tags of any kind on it,but ill try and get pic next time up. thanks mick oh yeah,he said he would let it go for 3000.

I know a guy that has two pumps that either the faces or the id tag say Standard Oil company on them. Can't remember what brand the pumps are. They are rectangular shaped. About 2/3 the way up they step down to a smaller rectangle. I want to say they are M&S pumps from the late 20's but I'm not sure. The tops overhang the main body and they have visi-gauges. Does that sound like what you saw?
Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros. http://www.lastgas15.com/

to answer your ?. pwerlube, its hard for me to picture it well enough to match it to something in the book, but the closest i can see is a st louis 711.bob there is no stepdown, tall and smooth all the way up.the reason it reinds me of the st louis is the cover over the clock.what interested me the most was the standard on the clock, yet no company name.i will try to get a pic next time i am up that way

Lastgas15...that sounds to me like a G&B Tru-Meter...seems like I read G&B was partially owned by Standard of New Jersey...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I have a Tru-Meter and they step down in size as they go up. The faces are porcelain and only read Tru-Meter in red. However my brass tag says "Standard" along with the NC tag and the Gilbarco tag. I also have a G&B T-177 that has the Gilbarco tag and another round brass tag that reads "NC Approved" around the top and bottom and "Standard" in the center just like the old porcelain sign logos. Standard Oil mainly used Gilbarco pumps in these parts.

When I think of a cover over the face I think of Erie. I think they were located in Pa.
Mick
G&B called their 90 a True Meter also and it goes straight up but without a cover over the light.

Mick, I was looking on Scobie's site and saw he had sales literature on a Tokheim pump by the Shell Petroleum Co. I would think that the lg oil cos. could order the pumps anyway they wanted. Were there Co owned stations back then? Just rambling!
