I will soon be painting my M&S 80 pump.
Does anyone have the correct paint code
for mobil red? The script top lid is
porcelain coated and already has reddish
orange mobil color. For this reason I
will have to match the lid with the exact
color paint. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I'm also intrested in the code of a correct 40's/50's mobil red. I have tried the "Mobil red" from the 70's (PPG), but IMO it's too orange (probably from the red O logo).
Bob at Bobs garage has the correct paint for sale, but for me it's a bit expensive (I live in Sweden, here's the link: http://members.aol.com/gaspast/rest.htm
I would prefer PPG codes, but to solve my problem I have had a paint shop mix the red paint from a Mobiloil can from 1955.
As for the white I use just plain white - would this be correct?

regards
Claes

Gasmelincelr,
It took me several trips to automotive paint stores before I found someone who knew that they had some old old books locked up in the office. Even the last time I went in the guys at the counter did not know they had them. My point is that some older stores have these books locked up and it takes some talking to get a look at them. Some of the fleet color sections also have some date information. This assumes you live in or near a big city with more that one paint supply house.
Good luck,
Ed
