Just want to reminded everyone that I have an auction this Saturday April 11, starting at 9:00am. At 9 we will be selling two rings outside farm style (this means off wagons, uncatalogued). We will be selling five wagons full of stuff including Illinois license plate collection, gas pump parts, oil cans, paper and a lot of miscellaneous items. Catalog items start around 10 am. So bring a friend and large truck or trailer lots of stuff to sell. This auction started off being a little one and turn into a huge auction. An questions call my office 217-563-8880 or my cell 217-259-7059. Thanks Dan http://www.matthewsauctions.com/ http://www.matthewsauctions.com/

Dan, I plan on being there, and wondered if you are going to sell off the rack items before you start on catalogued items? Not sure how much ground I can cover with two auctions going on.Norm Huff.

Tony and John I am planning right now on coming to Evansville in May for the Bone Brothers Shows. The more pumps you buy the cheater the delivery becomes. It does not cost that much more to hook the trailer to the truck, only about 5 miles to the gallon. Dan

We are going to be running two rings early outside to try and get most the stuff sold before we start on the cataloged items. I will be selling license plates and pump parts and Gavin will be selling the other three wagons of stuff. The inside ring may start a little after 10 o'clock. Dan

I'm buying online.....have bought several pumps. Auctions drive me nuts on pumps though. Wayne 60's restored WITH original pump plates under $2000 BUT Wayne 60's gutted, no doors, no sightglass manifolds, no computer, etc $1100??
A38's restored $1500, A38's in the rough $1100?? I bought several restoreds....I don't mind detailing up someone else's work and then retailing, it's easy money, but dang, don't understand the thought process sometimes?

Seth, I was trying to figure out exactly the same thing. Maybe there are just a lot of people with a lot of time on their hands needing something to keep them busy. I'd find it nearly impossible though, for someone to be able to buy the necessary supplies and complete the restoration and be able to come out ahead even if you don't count your time.

Seth, I agree %100, just dont have the money to do it. Why not give a couple hundred more for a finished one? Are you going to let me get any of them? LOL

In hindsight....I wish that I would've bought every single restored gas pump in that auction. I realize restored pumps ALWAYS GO TOO CHEAP in live auctions, (see mine for an example), but there are venues that even in a poor economy where those pumps would all make money. I always have a few restored pumps in my auction where I KNOW FOR A FACT that I'm going to lose money on them, but I feel obligated to have restored pumps in the sale. It's a weird phenomenon, but it is what it is.
I am very happy with my purchases, (unless they are radically different than described/purchased but that's the risk I run by not getting off my fanny and attending in person), namely with the Gilbarco 97 clockface with TWO original Texaco Diesel Fuel 2 ORIGINAL PUMP PLATES for $1700. The pump plates are worth $300 each, so if I yank them off and sell them, I'll only have around $1100 in a restored CLOCKFACE!!!
Again, I bid on just about all the restored pumps, but in hindsight I should've seen to it that the Wayne 60's & A38's ALL went past $2000 or owned them myself. Anyway......

Seth, I attended the sale at Raymond, Ill. its only about 65 miles from home. I said the same thing you said while they were selling a Wayne 60, with original Indian pump plates. you could sell the pump plates for about 35% of what the whole pump brought. All I bought was a few parts to use on a couple of visibles I already have. And they were not catalogued.
