I just dragged home an American Pump Co. clockface pump, model 550. The top panel, with globe holder, curves from front to back but does not cover the complete top of the pump. Two tabs on each side of the curved top panel may indicate some ad glass panels were used at one time. But even with the normal straight ad panel glass, parts of the top is still exposed. Is anyone familiar with this pump and what went to the sides of the curved top panel? Thanks.

There should be a piece of glass on each side. The glass is a very intricate step down, getting larger as it goes down. The pump is pictured in my new gas pump identification book. For information about the pump book see my website: www.crspub.com

Thanks Jack, I was hoping it would be in your new book...and I was also hoping it wasn't a single complicated one piece glass on each side. I sorta pictured it was a mini milkglass Tokheim 36 top looking piece and hoping it wasn't. I guess I have something to search for now...ain't this hobby fun! Thanks again for the info.

The picture I used for the book was given to me by a collector at Columbia, MO in January. It was a late additon to the book and the picture is of his pump, It was missing one of the pieces of glass and he showed me the picture because he was asking everyone if they might know where he could get one. I would suspect that a plastic replacement could be made, especially now that we are up to needing three.
