Most likely either Canada or the UK, although it could have been from just about any British Commonwealth country. The Texas Company modified their basic logo in 1936, deleting the wide red border around the trademark. 1936 was also the year in which what had been TEXACO marketing "east of Suez" was transfered to the newly-created Bahrain/CALTEX group. (CALTEX was originally a 50/50 partnership, combining The Texas Company's marketing network with Standard Oil Company of California's production and refining operations in the Middle East. CALTEX now, of course, merely one of the three brands owned by ChevronTexaco Corporation.) Hope this helps.

The sign is not from Canada, we never used the term petrol, and Texaco didn't have a presence in Canada untill they bought out McColl Frontenac / Red Indian in 1947, at which time stations were rebranded using the contemporary white T logo. Its most likely European, seems to me the used the Caltex logo in Australia.

Popo -

You're right about The Texas Company's having bought-out McColl-Frontenac in '47, although I was thinking that they did have some Canadian marketing prior to that time. Maybe not.

As I said, marketing "east of Suez" (including Australasia) changed from TEXACO to CALTEX beginning in '36.
