Recently picked up two matching Gilbarco pumps (both built in 1959) that have the sight glass in the face plate like the 96C, but do not have an ad glass. All the pictures of 96C's I have seen have the ad glass. Any idea what these are?

I also have the same pump without ad glass. I you look closely on the backside of the panels you will see that the metal panel over the ad glass is a filler plate. It can be removed and the ad glass added.

Hmmmm, I think I might have a different pump than you. I will try to get some pics uploaded in the next couple of days.

Well, here is the picture of the pumps I have. Unfortunately, these pumps are 700 miles away from me, but my brother looked at them and said there is no removable filler plate. I tend to trust him, he has restored several pumps and knows what he is talking about. That's not to say your pumps don't have them - I'm just saying it sounds like mine do not have these removable plates. My brother did find the model numbers for these pumps as well - which only muddies the water because they are both identical pumps and both manufactured on the same day - yet they have different model numbers! The blue model number is 96b300 and the red model is 96c120. I'm not familiar with 96B's - is that what these are? Can anyone help with some background on exactly what I have here? Thanks!

I have the same pump 96-C, no ad-glass and no knock out to put one in. I think they made two types of doors, with and with out ad-glass. IMO

These pumps look great all painted up, but I will never do another pump with lift off doors, every time you change a light bulb or take the doors off for any reason, you seem to get a new scratch. (again IMO)

Mine was also a Standard Oil pump originaly, maybe they ordered all their pumps without ad glass, who knows.

Also mine doesn't have a hose retractor, later model?

The ones I've had have NO filler plate to take out, just solid metal.

Brian, if I remember correctly, Standard Oil and Gilbarco, did have some sort of association or purchase agreement. As far as the adglass and retractor, my guess is thats an option. My 96C has adglasses, no retractor.

Mine had 3 stainless steel trim pieces on each door, the 3 pictured have 2. I think you could order these pumps in many configurations.

I would think so. You can see, in my pic, that the screws are there at the bottom of the door for the third piece of trim. If I find the pieces, I'll put those on, just for the extra detail.

Thanks for all the feedback! It's good to hear I'm not insane!

Brian, we're practically neighbors! I'm in Marion. I'm still debating whether to redo these pumps or sell them. Any chance I could take a look at your pump?
