Ebay Item number 380099294843. I usually do not look at these as I have enough of them. However, it jumped right out at me. Isn't the horse is facing the wrong way? Course I can always learn something which is why I asked. No date on the sign either. Thanks John

I BELIEVE THE BLACK BORDER, FONT AND RIGHT FACING PEGASUS WERE COMMON TO THE WEST COAST JOBBERS AND RETAILERS. IT IS LOCATED IN CA., SO I'M THINKING..... wink

I'm real curious to hear on this one! Lack of ANY rivets--back condition--just doesn't look good!----KEVIN

According to the "Collector's Guide Book" the Black bordered shields were 11x12, not 12x12. Also every photo shows pump sign shields with rivets. Doc was right, the black bordered signs were used primarily on the west coast(according again to the book). So far (to me)this sign asks more questions, than gives answers. I tried to a page from the book, but imageshack is screwed up.

I would also say a truck door sign, from the west coast.
Pump plates do not have the Socony-Vacuum text, and never have the Pegasus running to the right.
I would say the real deal!

cant say i know much about these small pump signs however i did notice that he is also selling a Propello Gas pump sign which i have never heard of...so it looks like he is not opposed to selling fake, repo or fantasy.....unless its real....i notice the fine print at the bottom says "Jameison Oil Co. New york"....never see that on a repo

PROPELLO is a 30" 2X porcelain sign.
Talked to a local picker that deals with this seller & it is his sign. He Guarantees it's an original old sign. Was found with the truck door sign that just sold & some old MOBILOIL BANNERS.

Doc, It's 30" round, double sided. Probably mounted in a split ring bolted together every few inches.

I was the buyer of the Mobilgas sign. It is a truck door sign with the Pegasus facing the opposite direction. The last one I saw sell was in 2006 and it brought over $900 and was not in as good of condition. Bill Fortune.

No question in my mind it an original! It's a truck sign that went on the right side cab door. Mobil's graphic standards were/are that on a moving vehicle (truck, race car, etc) the Pegasus ALWAYS faces FORWARD. So the left side has Pegasus facing left (forward) and the right side has Pegasus facing right (forward). The sign in this auction is one of the hardest ones to find and looks to be in excellent condition..........IMO the buyer got a good deal at under $700.
