How do you guys clean the computers in gas pumps? Any advice would be appreciated.

What I use causes damage to the finish on the wheels...I restore the units, giving the most attention to the wheels.....I take them back to bare metal and add new white and black over primer, so they come out nice and smooth. I have learned over the years how to rebuild the wheels as well.

Hey Robert, put it in the dishwasher with some extra soap, when your parents arent home.... Just kidding. A car wash should do you just fine. An overnight soak with some Simple Green is another option.

There is a degreaser I used on an a/c unit ,it did not hurt the paint at full strength, and cleaned it so well I almost didn't have to scrub.I think it was about $10 a gallon, but it was some of the best degreaser I have ever used.I will check with the chem. co.next week to get the name of the product.

The best paint remover I have found is
Brake Fluid...so far I have not seen it attack any kind of metal.Too exspensive to use in large amounts but works good to remove
stubborn paint from small aluminum parts.It is water soluble too.

A friend of mine has an ultra sonic cleaner he uses to clean aluminm head. If its not rusty it looks like brand new when done. Nextime I do one I will post a before and after pic.

This is the degreasing product I used on a painted surface that did not affect paint...
Just keep in mind all paints are different.
But this stuff was GREAT.I used it full strenght in a spray bottle, let set, rinse.

I used the simple green technique and it worked well. Removed some of the black from the wheels though so I'll have to repain those but that wont be a problem. What stinks is those little numbers the station attendant reads PAINT WENT AWAY. I'm gonna have to repaint those tiny tiny numbers which is going to be a pain in the butt. Man cheese how much would it cost for dawn or you to repaint those tiny numbers? Not sure I'll be able to do it since I dont have the steadiest hand.
