I am looking for any info rgarding the early racing history of the dry lakes of couthern California, from the 1930s up to the 1940s - (approx. 1947).

Anything in that era range having to do with early hot rodding,....photos, pamplets, programs, etc.

Also, looking for any other early racing or hop up memorabilia.

I am collecting these items for personal collection to be shared at club events, shows, and living history events, etc.
I am involved in an early pre-WWII hot rod club that started in the mid 1930s, and has been revived in 2007, after much personal research was made into the club, its history and the fellows in it. I figured that although I am not a "car club" kind of guy, but more a lover of history by far, if there was any sort of chance of finding at least ONE surviving member of the original gang that was in this club, then and only then, and only with that durviving member's blessing, would I, along with some friends, go ahead and revive it as a "period correct' hot rod club, keeping it as it was when it ws in its hayday.

You can visit out club's website here:

Thanks for your time.

Hello, while I have nothing to sell you. I have a couple photos and some book/mag articles relating to Muroc, I could share with you.

I believe Gilmore Oil company sponsored the first AAA timed speed trials at Muroc in 1931. Image below is from a book I have, Wilbur Shaw drove speed trials at Muroc for Gilmore Oil co. in late March, 1932.

Calling Curt, from the Poor Mans Museum, Curt...... The Poor Man, did a little feature here, a while back, about the early racing scene in California. I was unable to find that post though. Does anybody remeber that? Of Better yet, lets get the Poor Man, to show us his stuff again.

Thunder II....

This sounds very appealing.
I look forward to seeing what you or he comes up with! I can't get enough of this stuff!
All I need now is about an acre of land and a bigger garage too....Just trap myself in a nice little personalized time warp, and I'll be hunky-dorey from here on out!

I think I'm 32 going on 82!
