As all of you know on here I never claim to be an expert on anything but I believe the Magnolia globe on ebay right now may not be original. The guy says it is a 15" globe and I have never heard of or seen a 15" Magnolia globe that was original. Some undated copies were made many years ago in 15". Also, I just sold an original just like it except it was original and 16.5". I will let all of you decide but I did want to give everyone a "heads-up". Here is a link to the ebay one. http://cgi.ebay.com/Magnolia-Gas-Pump-Globe_W0QQitemZ7228000927QQcategoryZ40QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Ok, here is a link to mine off this site, you compare. Lettering is different, the flower is definately different. Just don't look right. http://www.oldgas.com/shoptalk/ubb/Forum3/HTML/002691.html

I'm no expert either but I believe you are correct that this is a fake.

A 15" Magnolia showed up at Pate many years ago and sold to a big collector for big money (at the time). When he learned it was fake, he was more than a little hot. Luckily he got his money back and the seller got a bit of a reputation.

Good catch here Roger.

...definitely fake, Roger - the 'Maximum Mileage' lettering is 'computer type', not hand-lettered like the artwork for the original lens would have been...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I don't think the seller is trying to deceive. This seller is the daughter of the guy that owned all of this stuff and died. Most everything else in the estate is original, save one repro sign I saw. She doesn't know anything about petro stuff at all, but seems to have good intentions.
