Help! After I placed this bid, I noticed that only one of the lenses is dated 1934. What do you experts out there think? Thanks! 7225132358

Dave:

It all depends on how fussy you are. Both lenses look original to me. Nothing to worry about and i'm sure it will go for more money. Still a nice globe. Hull is the only one i know that dated the lenses. You're okay in my book.

Hope this helps, Doug

Thanks for the reassurance. I doubt I'll win the auction, but it's good to know it's not a fake.

Dave, Great globe... hope you can get it. The hull lenses are not that hard to find so worst case you can get one but i would leave it alone. If you do win be very carefull as the hull bodies are very thin and there is no glass behind the lenses they can break very easy. Good luck!

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

I have seen lenses go for $100-$130 each and body go for $200-$265 so doin g the math $400-$525 in excellant shape. I think $435 would be a good buy. Just my opinion.

Dave:

I don't think the auction ever mentioned a hull body to begin with ? Just the lens is marked. You need to ask the seller if it's a hull. A hull screw on base is worth more in my book.

The body appears to have a crimped on metal base not a screw on base. Hull bodies used these crimped on metal bases.

Good eye wfort, i didn't look that close at the pictures. Dave ask the seller to give some pictures with the globe lit, both sides and another looking in from the neck/base to tell if it's a hull.

Dave:

He talks about darks spots ! I can't see them can you ? See what it looks like lit from both sides and try to see if he sends you two different shots of different sides. Remember one is marked hull with the date.

The shot looking inside the globe you'll be able to see the backside of the lenses, if it's a hull. In other words with a hull body you can put hand/arm all the way through it, with the lenses removed. It's hollow.

Hope this helps, Doug

Doug, you might be right... i might be a little light on the price on the hull body. It is a hull body as that was the only glass body they put a crimped on metal base to.

I'm not bidding on that globe brother. But i think i'm going to learn something out of this thread ? That's what oldgas is here for. Can someone show me a shot of a hull globe body with no collar and lenses?

Thanks, Doug

Doug, Hulls were made both with and with out the crimped collar. Mine is with a crimped collar. Bill said he will post a photo of his.

There are many differant glass bodies out there... maybe we could do a globe of the month just on globe bodies from 12 metal to 16.5 metal. There should be at least 15+ differant bodies.

Here is a photo of two different Hull bodies.
The one on the left is a red Hull body in a slightly larger size. It is about 5" wide and takes lenses that are 13.75". The white one takes standard 13.5" lenses and is 4.5" wide. I also have a Hull wide body that is about 6.5" wide for 13.5" lenses. None of my Hull's have a metal base.

This is the other side of the red Hull. I am looking for a 13.75" (not 13.5") lens like this one to complete the globe.

Tokhiem:

Thanks, Dave i think the globe looks good, the collar has a bend in it. Ask the other guys if that's an easy fix or not. The globe body is a hull, just like John and Bill stated. So you have two out of three pieces being a hull. I'll stand by my dollar value. But i'm a push over for hulll and gills.

Good luck with it, Doug
