How about it guys, is this the real deal? I'm always a little suspicious of one of a kind items that I've never seen or heard of before, especially when they apear in private auctions where they keep the bidders ID private.

Look like it's attracting a lot of attention with 463 hit and 29 bids.

Let me know what you think

One these sold on eBay in Jan 06. Seller was from Michigan and it sold for $1650. There was a similar story on that one. I don't know the winning bidder on that one. I did some research on that deal and there was no feedback posted to the buyer or seller on regarding this sale. I think there were questions on this site regarding the sign's authenticity at that time.

...it looks to me as if like the 'IROQUOIS CHIEF' lettering is slightly more blue than the duller blue in the illustration...would a small company spec (and pay for) two almost identical blues, instead of making both elements the same blue?

...although it seems strange that the 'IROQUOIS CHIEF' lettering is blue at all - as it's red on the globe, and the rest of the colors match...?

...but I dunno...if it's a fake, it's about the best one I've seen...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

This sign was fired flat in the kiln, there shouldn't be any marks on the back. When these signs were produced in large kilns, and the signs were hung by the grommet holes to maximize space so they could fire dozens of signs at once. These marks suggest a small ceramic kiln using stands to support the items being fired. The grommets are correct, but look as though they have been re-used from another sign.

I was asking myself the same question "why blue letters"????? And I've never seen paint runs on the back, maybe black.

The question is, even if it is a repo, what's it worth, I mean, it's not like a few hundered are floating around out there?

I'd buy one and you would see them on Ebay once a week. LOL

Well it went for $2,801.00 which is really cheap if it's real. If it could be turely authenticated, I would think it would be worth something in the $7,000 to $10,000 range at auction, maybe more. What do you guys think?

I've got my doubts on this one, it just doesn't look right to me.

I agree. That's $1200 more than the one sold for in Jan. That's a pretty good rate of appreciation.
