It appears the Paypal only rule is in effect on Ebay, as has been discussed here recently. I've always paid by money order. Is that something that can be arranged with the seller or do they have some way to prevent that. I've tried to steer away from Paypal but maybe I'll have to give in.

If it says Pay Pal Required, then you have to be signed up with PP to bid.
Some sellers will still accept M.O., check before bidding.

I think, not sure, but I think the seller has to offer Paypal as a source of payment. I'm sure you can still offer money orders etc. as I just had some auctions ended last week..and I offered Paypal, money orders, cashiers checks etc.
So the seller has to be registered with Paypal..

The way I read it was that a seller can only offer PayPal or that other online service *?* . A buyer can contact a seller and ask if they will accept other means and the transaction can be concluded that way. Sellers are not supposed to promote this at all. In fact I did read somewhere in the new policy explanations that eBay wanted sellers to report buyers who wanted to use other methods of payment. It's all really bizarre and of course a big turnoff. It's meant to make eBay "safe" but of course intelligent people see it for what it is... more $$$ for eBay. Good opportunity for other venues.

pay pal is not mandatory, the seller can check the box to accept credit cards, instead of pay pal....but seller has to accept at least one of the two.......you can also accept personnel or money order checks....

I have emailed more than 1 seller that stated they only accept PP, that they have lost another bidder that only uses M.O.

well Wes i think we were half right & DB was half right....ouch!! My bud Pablo emailed me info that ebay has changed there policy Nov. 1st so i looked into it & sure enough you can only use a M.O. or check with an item listed in certain categories.....click link to show these categories........

I suspect that after January 15th that ebay will Require all bidders to have signed up for PP or CC's to Bid on any item not listed as "M.O. or check with an item listed in certain categories".

Just what we need in a failing economy, more people using Credit instead of paying with Cash/M.O. !

I have credit cards, but only use them in an emergency or when I need/want a paper trail.

eBid.net seems to have the old style. They are definitely more reasonable than eBay. They answer questions quickly too. I think eBid will grow into what eBay used to be... a great place to shop and to sell. ePier is a waste of time, really dead.

Well it seems that PayPal is the preferred way to make a payment for Ebay,, it is mine for sure. It's instant and secure and only cost either the buyer or the seller 2.9%.. Lots of buyers take too long to send money orders, cash etc. PayPal is good for both buyer and seller, it guarantees payment for both parties..It saves a lot of messing around with International money orders, cashiers checks or bank drafts. Everytime I get a payment other than PayPal, I take it to my bank, there is always a hold on funds for a least 14 days and the bank tells me that a cashiers check or money order can come back at anytime after that, indefinately..I like PayPal,,electronic is the way business is done these days..
How many of you guys pay your bills at home online, ( Credit cards, utilities, etc.)? Don't forget sending payment in the snail mail isn't exactly free,gas, money order costs, stamps and don't forget your time..

I like pay pal as a buyer, but i still refuse to take it as a seller...I don't like giving up that 2.9% or whatever it is.....If you are a seller don't think pay pal is safe unless its connected right to the buyers bank account which i will never never do.....

there are ZERO funds in my pay pal account so when i pay with pay pal it bills my credit card direct......if there is a problem with the transaction it seems pay pal is way to seller friendly & they take there side.........having pay pal connected to my credit card always leaves me the option as a buyer to dispute the transaction with my credit card company who seems to be more buyer friendly......

In one transaction a couple of years ago i bought something that was not right & paid with pay pal...i recieved the item & it was bogus & the description was a total lie, i then tried to dispute the transaction with pay pal who did nothing in my behalf & sided with the seller, I then disputed the transaction with my credit card & after proving this thing was bogus, they sided with me & removed the pay pal charge from my credit card.....
....I do love pay pal as a buyer though, there is no downside if you set it up correctly........as a seller there can be some downsides......
