What's wrong with sniping? I bookmark something, put my bid in with a service, if I get it great; if I don't, who cares? Nothing happens on good stuff until the last 10 seconds anyway. Why would you bid on something until the end anyways (unless it has a reserve) Do you like seeing your name at the top of the list??? JMO

One thing I wish ebay would do for the sellers and buyers is anti-snipe. The gun auction sites do this, and it works GREAT to STOP the snipers and gets even more money for the item. They auto-extend the auction by 30 mins everytime a bid goes down.

...quit griping about sniping!

...if you don't want to get sniped, bid higher...I look at the bid histories all the time and am always amazed that two idiots will bid back and forth against each other, and run an item up for 6 days - WHY? The whole point of proxy bidding is to place a bid for the most you're willing to pay for an item, no less...if you win the auction for less, that's gravy...

...thankfully ebay DOESN'T prevent sniping...gives those of us who weren't born with a silver spoon in our mouth a chance to own nice stuff, too...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I have to admit that I have sniped a time or two. It can be quite a rush - especially if you are bidding more that you originally planned. Brady

Yea, I do it too. I buy all the time using sniping on eBay. I love it, but as a seller I hate it. I still think it is kind of wrong but hey its fair play on their site…

The only thing I see wrong with the sniping is that it is unfair to most common folks that have no clue on how to do it. The other problem is if the auction ends when someone wanting it is at work or school. Without the sniping on the gun sites I now have to put my max bid up as close to the end as I can, and I still usually get outbid. The days of buying a pre-ban Colt SP-1 Vietnam issue semi-auto AR-15 for $600.00 is gone; because of the anti-snipe that same gun will cost you $2,400.00+ today. It allowed the auction site to lower their fees because they were making more money. The values of the guns went sky high and then leveled out. It turned that hobby into a rich mans deal kicking out the lower income folks. It made all of the guns of the same make equal AND TRUE in value. It stopped the dealers and antique shops from sniping. It is only a matter of time until eBay does the same thing - so ENJOY IT WHILE IT LAST!

With the proven UPPED sales on the gun sites can you just imagine how much Big Cheese would make selling his gas pump parts with eBay if they put in anti-snipe rules? Almost all of his auctions that I bid on I do not snipe because I would have to get out of bed early to snipe them – most of them I am the only bidder before getting snipped by one person… So all that happens is I up his price allowing a sniper to take it away – so now I will just stop bidding, and the price he gets will go lower.

At times I like sniping, when I win the item. Don't like it when I lose the item. Travis, don't hold your breathe about e-bay dumping sniping. If you remember they warn the new member that it will happen and to be aware of it. On a different note, never have seen a AR-15 that was used in 'NAM. All the weapons that I saw either were CAR-15s or M-16s. And the only ones I know of that used CAR-15s were special ops, such as Seals, AF Para's and SF. And these weapons were fully auto, or at least the one I carried while in country was (I served with 5th SFGA).

Travis...you talked about having to get out of bed to snipe auctions? Are you aware that the majority of people sniping on ebay these days are doing it through automated services that do the sniping for you? You just enter the auction number and your bid and amount of time left in the auction where you want it sniped and that's it.

Wow - software that does it for you I did not know that - I will look into that this weekend! Thanks Seth!

On the other note Bob I am glad you made it home alive! Lots of good people never have and probably never will... The AR-15 SP1 was only one used there, it was a test gun towards the end of the war with no forward assist Full-Auto and de-comissioned to semi for field demo at a later date. They are one of the best guns you can get in AR forms. They can almost always be spoted by the TRIangel Front grip and the non-assist with the FULL stamp on the side and the original lever hole - the lower looks like the M-16 bottom. I should have never sold the last one I had - I will never get another one in mint shape again.. If you come across one that is an SP-1 with no forward assist in Semi or Full let me know, I would love to get another one and in Kansas I can get the Class 3 for the Full.
