Was looking at a A-38 this past week and it had original glass still in it that advertised Monarca Gasoline and had the ethyl (EGC) logo.
Have never heard of this brand nor can I find anything on it. I do know the pump was originally used local to my area.
Anyone heard of this brand before?

Don't know any specifics about Monarca but they must have been a central IL company. A few A 38's with Monarca ad glass or just the ad glass for A 38's have shown up over the years. All apparently came out of central IL. Maybe Norm Huff will reply. He's got a pretty good handle on what and where oil companies operated in central IL.
Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros. http://www.lastgas15.com/

About ten years ago I bought an A-38 with Monara add glass. It came from central IL. I have seen Monarca oil cans but nothing else.

Just found a photo of a celluloid on metal license plate topper for Monarca.
Good oil cans don't wait for people, people wait for them.

There is a tire dealership in Farmer City Illinois, that was a Monarca station in the early 1940s. They have a great picture of the old station hanging on the wall of the tire store with a row of A38s in front. And Farmer City (an oxymoron) is about as close to central Illinois as you can get.

was finally able to buy the local A38 that prompted this original post & got it home last night, so I figured I'd add a couple pictures of it for the archives & for the next guy looking for info. was told pump is all original parts, but has been restored. lens are definitely original.
also adding a picture that Nathan (iowaoil) sent me of an item he saw on ebay some time ago.
and a picture of a Monarca quart can from the OldGas photo archive.

Monarca was the shortened name for Centrill Monarca Oil Company. They later became part of the 500 Platolene, Inc. My Father drove a transport for both of the companies working out of Mattoon Illinois. It is a great looking pump!
