How can you care less about Aetna? It was based 20 miles away from you in Louisville. It doesn't get anymore local.

Nice globe!

Actually it does get closer. Louisville people are Viscoyl fans. You can't beat a nice Golden Tip, Stoll, or Viscoyl piece.

I thought AETNA, Stoll, and Bettis were the three from Louisville. Had no idea AETNA wa Stoll.

I believe Stoll was absorbed into Aetna.

When I lived in LaGrange (ion the 90's) I became friends with Glen Gaines and he was a HUGE Louisville collector. He stated that Stoll became Aetna.

I thought AETNA was originally started outside of KY and then came to KY after merging with Ashland. I could be wrong

Just bought a very rare Moto Purr 2 gallon can from Aetna. Through my collecting 2 gallons, I have learned a lot about the Louisville KY oil industry. I have 2 gallons from Aetna(Moto Purr), Early Bird(Early Bird), Dance(Dance), and Quality Oil Co(Super Lube),Ashland(Penn Pepper). Im sure there are more 2 gallons from Louisville. The earliest of these cans is the Moto Purr or Penn Pepper, circa early 30s, and all the others are 40s-50s.

Good oil cans don't wait for people, people wait for them.

You need a Viscoyl can. They can be pre1900s. Very difficult to find one. I have seen a couple.

Stoll was purchased by Sinclair in 1952. It's detailed in the excellent COTM feature Gary Drye did on Stoll back in '05 with information supplied by the Stoll family.

Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros.
