I recently bought this Super Chevrolet sign. I have had several others but all had blue ends on the end of the bow-tie where this one has black ends. Also the ends have not been painted and are porcelain like the rest of the sign. What is the difference between the two and when was this sign manufactured? Thanks for the help!

Black tips are older signs. Not sure of exact dates, but believe the black tips date from the 30's.
There is an Oldgasser from Illinois who will know the answer.

If memory serves me correctly 1940's is when Super Service signs were first used. I have a neon 1945 version and it has blue tips. To me that looks like a later sign.

From what I gather from what's being said, you have block letters and it's older...

Block letters as in a later sign (not as old as the earlier script letters).
If you look at the CHEVROLET letters on you sign they have straight edges. The sign in Randy's photo the CHEVROLET letters have points and loops.
