I recently purchased this Shell Attendant Hat, and was told it was from the 60's. Can anyone give me any information about the hat as well as a suggested value? Thank you!

That's a made up item- i.e. newer patch put on older hat.

Those hats are cool and valued from 25-50 bucks. The newer patch adds nothing to the value of the hat. Dave

After a little research I was worried that would be the case. I think I will remove the patch and find an original badge. Thanks everyone!

Definitely some crazy prices out there for original caps. But I'm wondering is that a military cap?

There aren't any defining marks on it, so I'm not even sure how to tell exactly what it is. It came in a vintage hat box, but that doesn't have any markings or labels either.

More of these are fakes than are real in my experience. Typically you'd expect a 30s-60s cap to have a tag or name stenciled in the sweat band. If actually worn I'd expect to see some wear and tear either inside or scuffs/abrasions to the bill and outside, as it was dress code to put these on and wear them.

Today many of us wear ball caps, just look at the wear and staining that they have, so when you see "prime" condition it's a flag to be suspicious on an unknown cap/hat.

This hat looks more like a dress military cap and would explain the box, because you'd want to keep it clean. However uniform manufacturers made hats/caps for both military and civilian applications so that's not to say this couldn't be one.

Whether made up or real, caps & hats tend to range the board $50-500 depending on if you have supporting evidence provenance, etc.

As a side note to the discussion, recently I purchased a cavalry slouch hat with a US wool insignia tack sewn to the front. It was obvious the insignia was real, but had been added at some later time to the hat. The hat had wear and ticking attached via cotton thread but no name. The seller had no idea whether it was a re-enactor hat or vintage Civil War/Indian War hat. I figured the $40 was worth a gamble just for the insignia. It's been consigned for a show next week, hopefully that will turn into a pretty good score.
