When I relocated my machine shop to Nebraska, I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase the Chevrolet dealership building in town. It was built in 1949 and had been an Oldsmobile/Chevrolet dealership all its life.
About a month ago a woman who volunteers at our county museum brought me the full size newspaper ad announcing the grand opening and open house for the dealership complete with a couple of pictures. It is my hope to try and return the front showroom to its former glory. (LOL trying to find and buy the 1949 Oldsmobile convertible sitting in the showroom). In the meantime I have 9 classic cars in the building. It is my dream to create 5 to 6 pump islands to use as stalls in which to park the cars.
My idea is to build a period correct island starting with a couple of early 1900's pumps and progressing forward to the 1960's.
Here is where I need your guys infinite wisdom.
I already have 2 Wayne 70's that I beleive were manufactured between 1937 and 1948.
I plan on restoring them and want to know what brand was most recognizable to the general public during this period.
Also, what other things should be included on this island?
I also have a Wayne 400 and Tokheim Interceptor, but can not find much info on the net as to when these were most widely used. Same for the Seloil cabinet I have with the roll up doors. This post is already long enough and I am sure there will be more questions to follow.
Your suggestions and guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.
Robert

Go to the women who brought you the info from the county museum and see if she has some photos of service stations in your town. Then you can try to duplicate some of those photos. Richard

I think if I had the resources to perform such a task.. I would "brand" at least 1 of the '70s, as Standard Oil of Nebraska "Red Crown"....

If you need a 1941 Standard Oil of Nebraska map? Check out

Lots of automobile dealerships were also service stations. I'd check to see if yours was, too.

That is correct Dave, some Ford dealerships sold Pure gasoline. Robert, if it was a Chevrolet dealership, maybe they sold Chevron gasoline? Just a thought, good luck.

If it's not a secret, where in NE are you? I am taking a vacation thru there in a few weeks and would enjoy driving by the building if near my route.

I have 100s of original ads, from around 1910 through the 1960s. These ads are for pumps, air meters, tankers, or, just about anything from around the service stations.

The next time you don't have anything to do, take a look at the literature section of my website: www.petrocollect.com
