jack... this was in an old restored train station in the hudson river valley.... part of the restoration... not for sale... dammit.. lol...

I've seen pictures of the ice cream vendor and the hot foods vendor but this one hadnt seen before.
I think Vendo made those-similar to a Coke vendo 80

I believe it originally vended milk and the little milk cartons would sit up in the sign. The apple sign replaced the milk sign.

I dont agree it's a conversion.
There was a hot foods, milk, and ice cream vendor that I know of(per the Classic Soda machines book)
Unless the sign was repainted to say apple, I would think this was another version of this dispenser

We had machines like that when I was in Jr. High School in L.A. Dave Folck circa...1961.
