Surprise...it is oil and gas related!

Thought this old Motown ... Jr. Walker album "A Gasssssssss" was kind of cool. The names of the songs on the album replaced popular oil and gas signage of the time.

I quized my kid (who is not into this stuff) on what brands these actually were and he got most of them right!

The "Honey" one I am not sure of myself?

Jim

Neat post Jim....I've seen this record a couple times lately while doing my Motown searches. I visited the Motown Hitsville USA museum late August and have been going crazy collecting Motown since. I think I've purchased well over 120 Motown records lately. If anyone has a chance to visit, it's well worth it and only $10 to go through. You actually get to stand in the recording room, formally a two car garage attached to the house, where EVERY Motown classic was recorded from 1959 to 1972 when Berry Gordy moved operations to Los Angeles and the "Motown Sound" was lost in my opinion!

Looking at the Jr. Walker/Allstars LP cover made me think of other petroliana-related musical contributions:

• Loverboy's 1984 video "Hot Girls In Love" (esp. in the last half of the video)

• Esso Trinidad Steel Band (Warner Bros; 1971). They performed a cover version of the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back", produced by Van Dyke Parks. Esso/Standard actually provided promotion for this band for several years.

Warner-Pioneer in Japan reissued this on CD in the 90's (WPCR-2325).

I was a petro-head before I became interested in music. I asked my parents to stop at gas stations to get the newest maps while on trips.

Come to think of it, I'm still a petro-head.

...I've got a couple of the Esso Steel Band's self-released albums - pretty sure a couple of them are autographed by the entire band (like 7-8 musicians)...if I can dig them out, I'll add a photo...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
