Gas in St. Clair Mi is 1.67 ,Not to bad compared to some other places, As for Canada, I cross the boarder all the time , both my boys ,Race TQ Midgets up in Canada eh we have not had a problem crossing, but the I.N.S. (boarder Patrol) has been stoping everyone on some of the major roads near the boarder, Some people are upset, not me I like the added security, we all have a lot to lose , Its like puting locks on your doors, it won't stop everything, but it makes you feel better!

I work with the fuel cell industry, and 2010 is a good guess for private use. Commercial use may be sooner where a centralized fuel supply can be used (buses, taxis, etc.). The problem is that hydrogen is very expensive as a fuel right now. Converting methane or gas into hydrogen is also expensive and requires a reformer. Stationary use (electric generators) running off propane will be the first fuel cell product you and I will be able to buy. It's a great technology, but still needs some refining before it's ready for public use.

I don't enjoy paying $1.799+ for 87 octane any more than the next guy and I'm not an apologist for the major oil companies. But let's be realistic, guys. Look at the price of gasoline (often 5 gallons for a dollar with zero tax) in the late 1920's and at the price of a new Model A in the same period. Now look at the price of a base-level 2003 Ford Taurus, and do some math. Factor in all of the taxes which apply to gasoline today and we could easily be paying $5 per gallon.

Jim is right, if you look at the economics of the thing gasoline is cheap when a lot of people are pulling down $20 an hour. I don't like the higher prices, but when you come down to it we all waste gas too with unnecessary trips, etc.

I lived and worked in southern Germany a couple of years ago for my employer. Fuel there is very expensive. But one thing that struck me was they close the country down on Sundays. There is no such thing as 24 hour a day Wal-marts. The roads are deserted on Sunday. It is a national day of family, very peaceful and quiet. Semi trucks are forbidden to be on the road from 10:00 Sat. nite until 10:00 Sunday nite.

Perhaps if we went back to 'no businesses open on Sunday' our fuel import needs will drop and prices will edge down. One German engineer I worked with in Zweibrucken said to me "you Americans are too much go go go with your open 24 hour aa day shops. You need to learn to slow down.'

I have thought about what he said. I am convinced he is 100% correct.

Hey Dwaine
Dont blame the Bushwhacker for porkin you, its old Grey Davis. When I crossed the Colorado River from Cal to Arizona, the gas prices dropped 30 cents a gallon in one mile. Same gas, same distributor, same refinery. Every retired prune picker I talked to wants to leave, the property taxes are equal to what their house payment was before they paid it off. Great Car meet tho not much petro

This is an e-mail I received a while back

Vern

You Think A Gallon Of Gas Is Expensive?

Makes one think, and puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ......... $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ....... $ 9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ............. $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ........... $33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ......... $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .......... $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ............... $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 ................. $84.48 per gallon

and this is the REAL KICKER......

Evian water 9 oz for $1.49 ........ $21.19 per gallon.

$21.19 FOR WATER! ....and the buyers don't even know the
source.

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car
doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid,
PEPTO BISMOL or NYQUIL!!!!
Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next
trip to the pump...........!

PremoPetrol,
Larry, if all we had to do was build straight flat highways in the sand our gas taxes wouldn't be so much.
I know what you mean, I ran down to Yuma last week and paid 25 cents less a gallon. We put on some great weather for you at the swap meet this last weekend. I went looking for you Sunday and you bailed. I covered my expenses, that was good since most of what I had was almost junk.

The old saying always went "As goes California so goes the nation". We don't want to decline to THAT state back here in the midwest!!!! One of my sisters lives in Orange County, been there for many years, and they have had it...wanting to leave the state entirely!! Most of their neighbors already have boogied out to Oregon, Montana, Washington state, etc. Besides, the Petro Pickins are generally pretty poor out that way give me Illinois any old day!!!!!
