What are some options for shipping a pump from the midwest to the northwest? I have a pump I am interested in but it is a "pick up" only item.

Thanks.

There was a discussiona while back about American Van lines (???) or some national comapny doing a reasonable priced move. Doest't have to be put on a pallet or anything. Doa search in the archives, or someone may be along with the exact answer. I am in Montana, so if I can help, let me know.

Specialized Transportation is theeeeeeee best. They are a United Van Lines agent located in Chicago but they ship all over the U.S. Great rates. 1-800-959-8880 Used 'em for unrestored and restored pumps. Never a problem.

There`s another one called "Vintage Transport" that specializes in transporting antiques & collectibles. They gave me an estimate of around $350 to ship a 1932 refrigerator from North Georgia to central Florida....and that included them crating it up! http://www.vintagetransport.com/

Specialized Transportation was fast and easy to deal with to begin with but be cafeful as we had them ship 2 well wrapped up pumps on pallets and the globes well wrapped and padded in seperate boxes and they scratched one of the pumps and broke both globes and it is a REAL hassle trying to get them to pay for the damage. Good luck Don

Wow - how cool is that! I was going to offer to pick the pump up and drive it to him for a fee - but my gas there and back would cost that!

I used Uship.com to bring a Mae West from Tennessee to Colorado. Another Oldgasser from here bought a pump from the same gentleman. It cost us $200 apiece for the trip. Everything went smoothly and couldn't have been happier.

I would say that if you're going cross-country that you can't beat forwardair. I'm having a pump shipped from Indiana to Oregon for $140. I priced both of the shipping companies listed in this thread and both were over $600!! On a pump, you're roughly talking 56.28 cents per pound, so obvioulsy you'd want to gut it. Seemed pretty reasonable to me.
