I had planned on doing my 300 in Sky Chief but a topic posted the other day mentioned Pure gas supplied racing gas, so that changed my mind. My question is which Pure would be the best as far as racing gas on a 1957 tokheim 300 (no ad glasses)? The only reason I ask is I don't wanna chose a Pure product from the 30s and put it on a '57 pump. Also, what is the basic history of Pure?

Jimmy,
Your best bet for a historically accurate restoration would be a 3 piece glass, wide body globe. The lenses have "Products Of The" arched around the top, "Pure" in the center, and "Pure Oil Company" arched around the bottom. This globe has the zig-zag blue border around it. Pure merged with Union Oil in the sixties.

I remember seeing a pump done in blue and white (blue on top) and a Pure Pep sign. Does that sound right for the late 50'?

the color combination sounds right. I don't know about the sign. Nels, where are you? This guy needs your help!

Jimmy, Pure Pep was used from 1955-1961 with the pump color scheme you mentioned. So your 300 would fit right in there.

Any of those ideas will work. Saw a TV program about a african american who was a professional race car driver. Don't remember the name of the guy. A lot of the photos they were showing, I could see a big pure sign in the backround. Might have been the indy 500??? Then as his career went along I started seeing 76 signs in the backround. This guy also had pure decals on his car plus a pure firebird decal on it. Vics catalog has a pure oil co. firebird racing gasoline globe. Real neat globe. I'd contact Seth and see if he can send you a catalog. Probably has the same logo on a decal for the doors. Get a piece of paper and some colored pencils. Draw a couple of pumps with different color schemes.
Pump all blue, or sides blue and doors white,
etc. Have fun!!!

Thanks for the input Nels! I think you may be thinking of a movie called Greased Lightning with Richard Pryor.
Hey Bob, White or Blue globe body?

From Gas pumps collectors guide, PPG 1960 chart: 10434 - Pure blue.
From Guide to gas pump retoration, Sherwin-Williams: 8494 Pure blue, 1551 Pure White.
Pure Pep regular 1955-61, Pure firebird regular 1961-70.
Rarely used globes.
hope this helps,
Claes
