I had to laugh at this photo I saw on Ebay....sorry about the watermark. Being I was 5 years old in 1981 I'm not certain what was going on in the oil/gas world, but with the way things are today where a gallon of gas can easily jump 20-40 cents within hours the protest of Mobil adding 3 cents to their prices and causing a boycott seems crazy to think about!

In the sixties and seventies the local gas stations would have gas wars over 1 cent differences. It is like comparing the advent of colored tv with the digital age. There is no comparison.

I bought my 1st new car in 1972. It was a 1971 Fiat 850 2dr sedan. It had to use only Hi-test gas, which was 35cents/gal. My dad called me crazy for buying a car that required only expensive gas. As a side note, I traded a 65 Mustang with no 2nd gear and my new car payments were $43.01 a month for 3 years!
