Though a long time collector, I'm new to the Petroliana World. I've had in the back of my head that it would be neat to own an old gas pump, but haven't gotten around to getting serious until recently. I picked up a Tokheim 39 tall and have been having a lot of fun with it. I'm keeping it "rustic" but trying to slow any deterioration. I've replaced glass, cleaned up the inside, straightened the significant bungs, made it light up and added the correct base and hose. I'm pretty happy with how it looks. Tomorrow I pour a small slab next to the house where it will reside. Old stuff has always been a good reason to learn and gas pumps are no exception. By looking on the internet, especially this site, I'm starting to understand why folks get excited about petroliana. Thanks for this great web site. I intend to spend many happy hours reading and learning. Now if I can figure out how to post a picture .... - Jack

Welcome to Oldgas.com Jack. Some guys like to restore gas pumps with glossy paint and pristine detailing. Other enthusiasts prefer keeping pumps original or given a "rustoration" to give it a survivor look and to preserve it. Have fun with it.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I think I'm about done with my pump. I got it bolted down on the new slab and it looks great. I may try to find a pump sign to cover up the large rust area in the middle. I'm pretty excited about how it looks. I hope I've attached the photo correctly. - Jack[size:16pt][/size]

Looks great. Maybe a Texaco sign would work good for you? That is what I was thinking. It would be about the right size for that spot.

Great looking pump. My first pump was a tall Tokheim 39 just like yours. I still have it and it will be the last one I sell. Be careful because they are going to multiply!

I was kinda thinking Texaco. I lean towards the green version although the white is good too. Any thoughts? - Jack

Has the look of Standard Oil, and Texaco did not have a "Regular" gas, it was Fire Chief.

Hey Jack...the Texaco Pump Plates, with their size would cover well...there are many. And they are fairly easy to find.

About two days ago I won a Sky Chief sign. It didn't take long to discover that this was Texaco's Ethyl and didn't match my Ad Glass. So, after quickly buying a Fire Chief sign, I now can take my pick. I suppose at some point I'll change my "Regular" glass to "Fire Chief" glass. That can wait till my next retirement check comes in. Thanks all. - Jack J.
