Wow, this was amazingly easy. 15 minutes with a soft wire brush and die grinder, the 10 with a polishing wheel.
I wasn't worried about getting out every pit and scratch. It's going outside.

Three questions
1. will putting heat to the nozzle to get the hose end out cause any damage?
2. Do people remove the pivot pin and handle in order to do the inside parts? If so, where to get a new pin to put back together?
3. Since going outside, clear coat when done??

I used heat on one of mine before without any problem. It was steel. Yours almost looks brass before you polished it. Mine will also sit outside but i'm actually wanting it to weather like a real pump did and will touch it up occasionally.

Polish it up good like you're doing and then just use a scotchbrite pad occasionally to keep it shiny.

I usually bead blast it to a clean soft finish then clear coat it three times with spray can glossy. It weathers well and becomes a nice matte look after a few weeks outside. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Just put it in vice and use a pipe wrench it will come right off. Make sure you pad the nozzle in the vice. Look like your spout was brass plated and polished the plating off? Looks like steel now.

exactly what I was planning. Just figured while I was typing I would ask about heat in case I have trouble. It took TONS of heat to get the other end off the pump!

That's just the picture, it's very brassy in person.
