I bought this large 8" tall tube repair kit can and it was full of these still lined pads of some kind. They are dried out and hard from age. Almost look like felt or something. Also have a rubber like (green) pad on back.
Any idea what they are???

Hot Patch; Put patch on tube & clamp coming down on the metal edges.
Scratch the center with screw driver or knife & then light with match.
When fire goes out & it cools take clamp off & remove metal slowly.
Patch won't lift off tube if you did correctly.

Man, I used a lot of those when I was a kid on the farm. They worked great. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

I remember hot patching bike tubes where you light the glue on fire and stick the rubber patch on, but never anything as series as these with a clamp and the steel backing!

For what it's worth, I kept two of them in the can and through the rest out. The were all nasty crusty anyway.

Here is my Sunoco tire patch collection. These larger ones are the only examples of these I've ever seen.

Nice collection!

I too picked up an old container with some hot patches, I left several on my tool box and forgot about them.. One day I was grinding and could smell something was burning, I turned around and one of the patchs had Ignited from the sparks!
