This is for sale locally. I have searched the archives of oldgas and these were much cheaper and easier to find just 3 years ago. Either I cannot find one reasonably priced, or the market has changed so quickly I don't know what reasonable is anymore. Seller is at $1,000 firm on this.
What value do you all assign to this? Back side is similar to front.

I'd be hard pressed to give $200.00 for that. Give it some time and a better one will show up.

I like the sign but I don't like the price. I've paid a premium for a lot of my signs recently to save myself time and travel costs, sometimes 20% above top value for a given condition, but this does feel like it's priced well over 100% above its real value. It's very closely located to me, but I wish the seller was realistic on his price. Thanks everyone.

I agree with les/done4. That is a plentiful sign, don't know why they ask so much for them. The seller has been watching too many episodes of The Pickers. Ask the seller to sell you some of what they are smoking. Ed.

$1000 is for the rich-decorator displayer non-knowledgeable-collector.
Average selling price $300 or less. Sorry to the guys who ran across such signs for $10, those days are gone in most parts of the US.

I'd like to revisit this topic. I went to the Peotone, IL show early this year and to the CTO show yesterday. At both shows there were this style Texaco sign in SUBSTANTIALLY worse condition than this one, listed around $900 or more, and the sellers and dealers would never budge less than about $800. I'm talking signs with huge rusted chunks missing, multiple fold lines, every color completely faded, and at least 35% total porcelain loss.
Is it possible the market for these has completely changed recently? I have a gentleman on here offering his single sided one to me for $1,000 and I'm probably going to do it even though it's pretty rough on it's bottom front side because it has good color.
Individual sellers, with the internet to use to price compare, now seem to demand higher prices, and dealers at CTO had much worse quality for same or higher prices on this style sign.
What do you all thInk?

I'm not knowledgeable enough to give a value on that sign so I'll defer to the previous responses. But I personally would not value the sign based on asking prices since anyone can ask whatever they want. Here's a link one in much better condition that recently sold on ebay for $1025 (I'll let others judge whether it was authentic):

In my opinion, you should do better for $1000. Joe

Well the old saying you can ask what you want and i would bet none sold at that price with the condition issues. I would be patient and find a nice one. It's possible these guys had alot into the signs who knows. I never use ebay for pricing.

While I have alot of signs in my shop, and need to see them hold their value or increase, there is no way that Texaco sign is worth 1000.00. If Im wrong, then I still benefit. Hold out for a better one even if you have to pay up for it.

In my opinion, you should do better for $1000. Joe That one was real nice. Local pickup only has also made things hard. That was in California, so about 2,000 miles away. Maybe my area is having a small drought of good quality signs.

Here is a single sided porcelain for $1,000 firm. Best I've seen in the Midwest for a long time in this price range but still no where near that recent eBay listing quality.
What do you all think of this one?

I just sold one on here in very similar condition for $700 which I think was fair to buyer and seller.
